Swift County
Developmental Achievement Center
About Us
The Swift County Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) is a private, non-profit 501c3 charitable corporation licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services as a Day Training and Habilitation, Structured Day, and Prevocational program. The DAC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The organization exists to provide meaningful day services to individuals with disabilities.
In 1965, led by a group of parents and advocates, the Swift County DAC began. Opening day was held in the basement of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church with two children, one adult, and two staff in attendance. Today, the DAC serves 40 adults with 12 support staff, both at the DAC on West Highway 12 in Benson and at various locations within the community. Services are designed on an individual basis with vocational, non vocational, and educational options to choose from. Currently the DAC partners with over 30 community businesses in different ways at varying levels to meet the job needs of the business while at the same time meet the employment goals of the individuals in the program. While work is the primary focus for many individuals with the DAC, the DAC also offers a variety of non vocational and educational opportunities each day both at the DAC and in the community.
